Deciphering The ‘Y’ Chromosome – Chapter 4

Today let’s discuss a few stereotypes that still rule our lives. The basic one happens even before we are born. Ever heard of pink is for girls and blue is for boys, if only I had a penny for every time I hear that. Don’t get me wrong, I love how cute the pinks and blues in a room look, but you’re teaching the child that this is the set of colors you should like and these are the ones that you shouldn’t. As a guy, I have no objection with the color, as matter of fact, I get compliments when I wear a pink shirt because it suits me not because I am a guy who is wearing pink so I should be given an award for it (seriously, no).

I have observed my fellow earth beings judging things based on ‘too girly’, ‘manly’ and even ‘unmanly’. Oh! And how can we forget ‘ew! Gay’ because apparently, a sexual preference is an adjective now (you astonish me). Truth to be told we are not loud, huffing, puffing animals when we watch cricket or any other sport. In fact, some of us don’t even like watching sports. Oh! And we do not enjoy living in mess as much as any second person on the streets. Let me break the bubble not all of us are stinking pigs because not all boys are same. I must have said something sexist in the past, you too must have. But that doesn’t mean we are insensitive jerks. It just means we should realize our mistakes and apologize for it. And no I don’t put women on pedestals and worship them, I don’t harass them either. I respect them as an individual, not because they are of the opposite gender.

I am shy and obnoxiously loud at times, and my demeanor varies depending on the person I am with. I care too much and at times I don’t care at all. And all of this is because I am a human first not because I am a guy. So, the next time you call someone manly define unmanly, please. The next time you use the word gay as an insult, ask yourself is this the person you want to be. And the next time you judge someone for their gender, remember we are humans first, our genders are secondary. And it doesn’t matter if you’re boy or a girl, if you’re rude you are a bad person, not a gender.

This strikes a chord yo. This was one of the best reads I went over this month. Honestly I’m so glad you considered writing this. These trivial daffy things are common today but nobody really gives a rat’s arse about zeroing in on them. This is witty and cognizant. Really.
