I am not here to tell you he was special,
Frankly, he was the sinner of all my sins,
Feeling the need to put cushions under my feet,
Treating me like I had ‘fragile handle with care’ inked on my skin.
And I didn’t object, I fell in this sort of haze,
It was addicting, depending on someone to care for you,
I got so used to this idea, used to being a part of this maze,
Settled in his delusional beliefs, caged in our man made ‘in between.’
We fed on uncertainty and breathed hopes of a better future,
Alas, if only I had known better,
I would go back in time to remind myself that what you see is what you get,
That no amount of love can change a person.
That honey, you’re no Belle and he was no Beast.
Life isn’t a fairy tale with happy ending,
It is stitched bruises and hearts greased,
Today’s yes and tomorrow’s maybes, all coliding.

Hey, Tanya! It’s really great to see you back here! “Greased Hearts” is a powerful analysis of the way we so often treat each other. I love the ending.
Hugs, Rich
