Hey! I’m Em, an 18-year-old lover of cinnamon swirls and coffee living in the heart of the countryside. Currently on her gap year adventures, doing as much as she can, and also dabbling in this ‘blogging’ thing. There’s not much to say about me, I’m fairly average but I love to write, sing, act, explore, design and take my little camera out with me wherever I go.
Dear my imaginary friend,
Your name was actually pink friend, and you were completely pink – gender generalization or what 4-year-old Em?
But how have you been? With your bunny called Mr. Fluffy and obsession for chocolate cake frosting, I hope now you’re older like myself, you haven’t fallen into the insecurities and stayed you perfect pink self. And I hope Mr. Fluffy is doing well if he’s still around.
I wanted to take a moment to say I still remember you, I still think of you, of course, I do. 18-year-old Em, although classed an ‘adult’, is yet to let go of her youth inside, and I doubt she never will. You will forever be a constant in my life.
I’ve found myself reminiscing recently, having many big decision coming up I needed time to look back to when I didn’t have to worry about these things. Like that time we were making soup in my kitchen and accidentally put sugar in instead of salt? Trust me, my cooking hasn’t improved since. And like the time I hid in my wardrobe because I was grounded, you sat by me and we giggled into the evening until I was able to get over my toddler tantrum and emerge from the unyielding wardrobe. I also found the picture I drew of you, I was no Picasso but I was pretty proud. And honestly, I wouldn’t do much better today and would still be proud.
Those were the days, eh?
You always told me you wanted to go to the moon in the future, how’s that going for you? And that performing thing I told you about? It seems to be going well, obviously thanks to your help in pretending to be the other character for me.
I also wanted to say thank you, for all the laughs, for widening my imagination to new world, worlds I will never forget, for the games, the jokes, for wiping my tears and dancing in my bedroom to S Club 7 until I was once again giggling, for telling me my ears weren’t too big and I didn’t sound like a boy. Thank you for being a pretty amazing friend, a forever friend, an unforgettable friend.
Say hi to Mr. Fluffy for me.
