Every year on March 8th we celebrate International Women’s Day. This day marks the celebration of women all over the world. You might notice that stores give amazing discounts and free spa tickets. But, is this what IWD is all about? Well my dear friend, no international Women’s Day is about acknowledging the struggle and appreciating it. It’s not about making women strong, women are already, it’s about changing the way the world perceives this strength. Women have come a long way, spent decades fighting for equality among people. They are still trying to fit in, slowly and yet steadily. I say, why fit in? Fit out, don’t adjust to the needs of others, be your complete self.
How did this day happen? What events led to the birth of it? It’s difficult to give an exact date to this but it is said to have started in the early 1900’s. It’s roots can be traced back to 1908 when a group of 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding voting right, shorter working hours and better pay. 1911 was the year when March 8th was officially declared as International Women’s Day. Thus making 2016 the 105th year to celebrate women. The theme this Women’s Day is about abolishing gender discrimination, the theme is “Planet 50-50 by 2030 : Step It Up for Gender Equality”.
Lets celebrate women and lets stand by each other. Remember, the strongest women are those who build each other up instead of tearing each other down. So here I am asking you to take this Pledge for Parity!.
Today I request you to go and say thank you to the women who have inspired you, to do amazing things in life. To all the girls out there believe in yourself, your dreams and work towards it. Be your very best self. Remember you have got to dream big to be able to do big things.
And until next time 😀
