together

Driving each other crazy since the day we met. It was maddening. Your cologne still smells like the only home I have ever known. The crisp winter air represents a harsh irony to our intense warmth. Darling, our passion was at the acme. The only paths unexplored were the downs of our unsolved equation. We went spiraling downwards with such grace that even insipid chaos seemed appealing. For a moment, it almost felt like forever. The similarities were uncanny. In our hearts we knew that – ‘this was just right.’ Your arms wrapped protectively around me and my fingers playing with your thin unevenly cut hair spread an unfamiliar feeling of safety in our veins. For two people that reek of destruction safety is alienating. We created a fire as bright as our pretentious love and drenched our ostentatious bodies deep inside. A fan of devastating endings and unfulfilled love made burning each other out seem like child play. Thus, when we burned the fire muffled our screams, wounded our pride and stilled our lives. Mugs of deep brewed coffee and butts of half burnt cigarettes later your name sits strangely on my mouth. The syllables don’t roll off like they once used to. The chilly winter air is now the mirror of our intense warmth. To you, I was the girl you had similar interests with. To me, you were a strange boy from an exotic land. We didn’t fit into each other lives, but together we were inevitable, like two poetic lines that didn’t fit in a poem but when together rhymed perfectly.
