Why I Write.

I love writing. It’s my form of freedom. My happiness. There is something about it when the words rhyme or the story fits, it’s so exhilarating. I am in love with words. I love playing with words, putting them in different places, making stupid meanings and forming sentences that grow to stories/poems. A writer is the best and the worst thing you can be at the same time. Why worst you ask? Well my friend, it makes you desperate. Desperate for more meaningful words, desperate to make a change and mostly desperate to get your feelings written. In some way we can even label it as an addiction. People get addicted to drugs, in a weird fashion this is my drug.

Ask your friends who write, how did they fall in love with words. They might not tell you. But if you really want to know, read the words they choose to write. Somewhere between those rhyming words and that tiny slip of raw emotion, you will find their heart. The thing is not many people have the courage to dive in so deep. I don’t blame them.  Coming back to take a breath after the dive is challenging. You might get lost with an intention to never be found again. A black hole is what I call it. It is invisible to a mortal’s eye.

The relationship of a writer to words is dangerously beautiful. You think you have got it all figured out and right when you turn the page, there is a completely different story. See how confusing that can get to a mere mortal. That is why my friend, people don’t usually get this love. They don’t believe in it. they think it’s easy to maintain. All you gotta do is put words together which hardly requires any effort. Alas! How wrong can they get? It’s everything but easy sweetheart. It’s frightening and friendly at the same time. It takes a lot of effort to find the word that fits perfectly. How a jigsaw puzzle needs specific pieces to fit in specific places? It is the exact same way here. Not every word fits.

Nevertheless, let me warn you if you can’t handle this, don’t try child. It will challenge you, make you question your beliefs, send you to a war, where the winner is always dead and it will burn you alive. If you don’t know how to survive fire, don’t let your faith falter. This my friend, is an inferno that starts as a flame. This is the kind of burn, you never recover from, on the brighter side, you wouldn’t want to fight this flame. It becomes your link of sanity in this insane land.

This is just me, putting writing on a pedestal, worshiping it. it’s not the same for everyone. Nevertheless, this is my views on it. And I am sorry, I am not posting as regularly as I want to, school is going on in full swing.

So, I hope you like it. And comment down below and tell me what writing means to you. I would love to hear your perspective on this.

  1. Loved the post. Actually, it made me felt a bit more proud that I write.
And personally, I write for mumerous reasons. Sometimes, to cherish a memory, to make it immortal with a written piece , or to Express my emotions for someone or something, or… To find a solution of my problems.. Writing them down makes my mind clear and I get the solution.. And often i just write to clear the mind… Just to feel light.

Thank you, Pranay. And I am glad you are passionate about writing too. I love the reasons you write for as a matter of fact we have some common reasons too. I appreciate your comment and taking time to read this. Thank you .

  2. […] I love writing. And lately, I have been so inspired by even the tiniest thing in life. I wrote a post about this (Why I Write.) […]

  3. Every person who is writing has their own perception for the same. I think like about us there should be unique page called Why I am writing?
You can read my perception over here : https://ithinkmyway.wordpress.com/2016/05/17/from-writer-to-writers/

Precisely. It’s different for everybody yet we share a common link WRITING. And yes, I would definitely give it a read.

  4. I think you’ll find that here in the blogging community, we all think the same 🙂
We wouldn’t write unless we enjoyed it, and if it’s on a pedestal for you – it’s godhood forall of us – and that’s something that resonated deeply.
    Always relevant and well written.

Which is precisely what I am trying to convey. This is post is more for me to read than others, when I get a writers block (as a reminder I suppose). It’s my form of therapy and yes it’s the same for literally everybody in this community which in itself sounds magical. That we all share a common link, even if we are from extreme ends of the world. I am glad you liked it. And thank you. 🙂

  7. You are right.. Words are drugs. It does not harm. But it helps to let all your frustration out on a paper. And trust me it makes me feel better always.
